Groundsworker - Part-Time - West Valley

Department: Grounds

LOCATION: All Recreation Centers of Sun City Properties

HOURS: Monday - Thursday 6am -12pm, Friday 6am - 11am

NOTE: Grounds crew meets at the same central location every day, then disperses from there.

Job Summary: Performs a variety of tasks related to landscape maintenance, lawn bowl greens maintenance and grounds maintenance at various Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. (RCSC) locations.

Starting rate: $16.50/hour

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mows, rakes, waters, weeds, mulches, prunes, plants and fertilizes as directed.
  • Digs and fills in holes for various reasons and may be required to mix, pour and finish small amounts of concrete.
  • Cleans sidewalks, roadways, and open areas.
  • Lifts and transports various objects to and from the work site.
  • Assists with fabrication of lawn bowl related backboards and plinth boards for lawn bowl reconstruction work.
  • Assists with irrigation installations and repairs as needed.
  • Operates hand held moisture meter.
  • Accurately and consistently records information related to maintenance work or tests performed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to operate various types of machinery and tools including, but not limited to, chain saws, riding and walk behind mowers, verticutters, lawn rollers, tractors, top dressers, moisture meters, trimmers, blowers, pole saws, vacuums, jack hammers, chemical sprayers, mechanics hand tools, shovels, picks, wheel barrows, hoes and brooms.
  • Experience in adjusting electronic irrigation timers for watering, or familiarity with it.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds and to seek help and/or provide assistance to others with any object(s) over that weight.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Able to hitch and unhitch trailers, and pulling equipment or utility trailers safely.
  • Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s license.

Working Conditions

  • Involves moderate exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noises
  • Involves climbing, walking, seeing, hearing, breathing and carrying items
  • Requires physical activity including squatting, lifting, pushing and pulling
