Assistant Center Leader - Fairway Rec. Center, Sun City

Department: Centers

ASSISTANT CENTER LEADER - Fairway Recreation Center

Reports to: Center Leader – Fairway Center

Supervision Exercised: Center Foreman and Center Associates.

Pay Status: Exempt

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Center Leader, the Assistant Center Leader plans, organizes, directs, trains, and controls the activities of all staff at their respective centers. The Assistant Center Leader is responsible for maintaining clean and well-functioning facilities and a consistently clean and safe environment for RCSC Cardholders. The Assistant Center Leader ensures the following of established Corporate Board Policies, Personnel Policies, and Management Directives. The Assistant Center Leader ensures the delivery of outstanding customer service for RCSC Cardholders and their guests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for management of the custodian services to include but not limited to the cleaning and light repair work
  • Continuously encourages and holds accountable staff to strive for excellence in cleanliness, safety, and service of all RCSC facilities and Cardholder satisfaction.
  • Works in cooperation with all RCSC departments to ensure organizational effectiveness and outstanding customer service.
  • Establishes and routinely monitors staffing and department/organizational needs.
  • Conducts disciplinary performance improvement plans and salary reviews.
  • Develops and implements written goals, procedures, checklists, and plans. Periodic reviews for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Evaluates work methods and procedures on a regular basis.
  • Work with Pool/Spa Leader to properly maintain the water at the center.
  • Requires employees to maintain safe work practices and follow established procedures for accident and incident reporting. Assists with incident and accident investigations when requested.
  • Effectively addresses difficult and sensitive cardholder inquiries, suggestions, and complaints.
  • Attend various meetings when requested.
  • Enforces Corporate Documents, Board Policies, Personnel Policies and Management Directives in a polite, respectful, and constructive manner and provides support to staff in efforts to enforce rules, policies, and directives.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and successfully oversees time sensitive issues.
  • Requires employees to complete all required forms and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Performs leadership staffing interviews and selects staff according to approved criteria and the “best fit” candidate for the organization.
  • Notifies Center Leader of all employee performance or behavioral issues and corrective actions being taken to correct said issues.
  • Initiate actions and make decisions within established precedents or well-defined policy with regular managerial direction and review.
  • Ensures all employees complete on-the-job training. Provide retraining when necessary and timely follow-up to ensure employees are using said training in the daily performance of their duties.
  • Ensures safety training is provided to staff on a regular basis and records are maintained.
  • Protect Cardholders, employees, and property by responding to emergencies and situations during work hours and after work hours as needed.
  • Develops and participates in staff supervision on call scheduling for weekends and holidays.
  • Approves timecards for assigned staff.
  • Participate in mandatory safety training and prioritize safety throughout the workday.
  • Adjust work schedule to meet demands.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Education Associate’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum education beyond completion of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred experience in custodial management OR;
  • Three (3) years of demonstrated facilities and/or housekeeping/janitorial experience and three (3) years of demonstrated supervisory and financial management experience preferably in facilities and housekeeping/janitorial field.
  • PC proficiency at intermediate competency level in MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Word.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid State of Arizona driver’s license.

  • Ability to compose reports, spreadsheets, and operational procedures.
  • Must exhibit strong organizational and time management skills and be able to re-adjust schedule when necessary.
  • Ability to display and use appropriate discretion and judgment.
  • High degree of accountability, initiative, and dependability.
  • Ability to assist Clubs and work in harmony with event volunteers.
  • Must possess knowledge of methods, practices, chemicals, tools, and materials used in building maintenance, repair, and cleaning.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) program, safety programs, occupational hazards, and safety precautions applicable to the recreational industry required.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Involves moderate exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires physical activity, speaking, seeing, hearing, walking, squatting, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling objects up to fifty pounds.
  • Requires sitting at a desk occasionally for several hours at a time.
