Security and Access Control Technical Specialist

Job Summary:

The Security and Access Control Technical Specialist plays a key role in supporting and advancing the physical security infrastructure of RCSC by managing, maintaining, and improving video surveillance and access control systems. This position requires a highly accountable, forward-thinking, and proactive individual who can work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Strong communication, adaptability, and respect for direction are essential, along with the ability to manage tasks through completion.

The ideal candidate is not only technically competent but also solution-oriented, coachable, and able to follow established processes while contributing to improvements. Regular collaboration with the Safety and Compliance team and IT department is required. This role also requires an active participant and team player who is committed to contributing to the overall success of the department and organization by supporting departmental initiatives, attending meetings, and offering process improvement suggestions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of all video surveillance, access control, and security systems across RCSC properties.
  • Collaborate closely with the Safety and Compliance and IT teams to align system capabilities with organizational needs and infrastructure.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to vendors; manage vendor relationships and oversee project timelines, deliverables, and quality assurance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain written policies and procedures for all aspects of video surveillance and access control systems.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory list of all security-related devices and systems, ensuring accurate records of hardware and software assets.
  • Work collaboratively with the Safety Coordinator to review video surveillance related to incident reports; objectively search for and identify the behavior described, extract and archive relevant footage, securely share it with appropriate parties, and develop documented procedures to standardize the process.
  • Configure and support facility-facing security system displays including those at facility attendant stations and pro shop counters.
  • Participate in planning and consult on physical security aspects of new projects or facility upgrades.
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot system functionality, video retention settings, alerts, and analytics features.
  • Coordinate with IT regarding network performance for camera systems, storage capacity, and server functionality.
  • Use monitoring tools to detect and receive alerts when security devices or systems go offline or fail, ensuring timely response and resolution.
  • Maintain flexibility mindset in scheduling, requests, and overall management of tasks to meet organizational demands.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, safety briefings, and project planning sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of technical experience involving video surveillance and access control systems.
  • Demonstrated success managing security technology projects from start to finish, including vendor coordination and implementation.
  • Experience with Motorola Avigilon or similar surveillance platforms is required.
  • Proficiency with access control system management is required; experience with platforms such as Lenel, Genetec, or Avigilon ACM preferred.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking principles relevant to physical security (e.g., PoE switches, VLANs, bandwidth, and storage).
  • Familiarity with video management software (VMS), intrusion detection systems, and card management software (CMS).
  • Knowledge of camera analytics and configuration of system alerts.
  • Knowledge of network video recorder (NVR), digital video recorder (DVR), and access control systems with emphasis on their IP-based configurations.
  • Experience using server-based systems, including a basic understanding of server hardware, operating systems, and maintenance, especially in relation to ACM.
  • Experience with system monitoring tools that provide alerts for device or system failures.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills required, including the ability to create professional written procedures, incident summaries, and system documentation using clear, concise language.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid State of Arizona Driver’s License and ability to maintain it.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position will be considered.
