Communications Coordinator - Full Time - West Valley

Department: Events & Entertainment

Job Summary: This management team member develops ideas for feature articles, attends Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. (RCSC) events, obtains photographs, and writes copy for the newsletter, press releases, email blasts, website, blogs, and other communication, marketing and public relations opportunities that promote awareness of the organization, its services and the community, both internally and externally. Designs, writes and publishes effective newsletter, advertisements and promotional materials. Maintains website with current and up to date information and search engine optimization. Recommends communication strategies, public relations approaches and marketing ideas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, write, edit, proof and publish newsletter monthly.
  • Develop ideas for feature articles and conduct interviews with Sun City AZ residents.
  • Write copy for press releases, email blasts, the website, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and other communication, marketing and public relations opportunities that promote awareness of the organization, its services and the community, both internally and externally.
  • Post, maintain, update and verify information on the website. Maintain search engine optimization at a high level and assist with website design and layout.
  • Research information, collect data and verify all published facts, dates, and statistics.
  • Design effective advertisements and other promotional materials.
  • Read and edit copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Rewrite or modify copy to clarify meaning and to conform to communication, marketing and public relations policies.
  • Organize, prioritize and appropriately edit submitted material.
  • Develop contacts and relationships with media and marketing representatives.
  • Develop contacts with clubs and organizations which provide input for publication.
  • Initiate or reply to correspondence regarding material published or being considered for publication.
  • Recommend communication strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Recommend marketing ideas and public relations approaches.
  • Attend RCSC events and obtain photographs.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in journalism, communication, marketing or related field; or Associate degree plus two years of writing & interviewing experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and newsletter and website design software. Prefer knowledge of Wordpress, HTML and CSS.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong journalistic writing ability. Ability to write original copy, with excellent proofreading and editing skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally in writing.
  • Strong knowledge and command of the English language, spelling, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of development of marketing and public relations plan for both internal and external programs.
  • Ability to design and create promotional materials, advertisements, newsletters, and websites.
  • Knowledge of newsletter publishing.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of the team.
  • Ability to work under pressure of tight deadlines.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to consistently maintain excellent customer service, whether in person or over the telephone. Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • High degree of accountability, initiative, dependability and creativity. Keeps commitments.
  • Generates suggestions for improving effectiveness and efficiency. Displays willingness to make decisions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid State of Arizona Driver’s License.
