Audio/Video Technical Assistant - West Valley

Department: Events & Entertainment

Audio/Video/Lighting/Low Voltage Systems Technical Assistant

Reports to: Audio/Video Technician

Days/Hours - will vary based on the Events and Entertainment schedule. Will be discussed in the interview process

Job Summary: Responsible for installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and asset management of audio, video, lighting, and CCTV systems and associated peripheral gear. Provide operation support for concerts, club performances, executive corporate meetings, private event reservations, special events, and other club gatherings held throughout the entirety of the Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and adheres to event schedules provided by the Clubs, Activities & Communications Leader, Clubs and Activities Office, and Corporate Executive Coordinator, as well as other Senior Management.
  • Capable of providing the function or service of an Audio, Lighting, or Video Technician.
  • Works with staff, clubs, and/or performers to provide complete production support for all events.
  • Awareness of systems performance issues.
  • Troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair/replacement of AVL systems and their components. Make recommendations for system upgrades.
  • Operation of audio, video, and theatrical lighting systems.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the AVL industry; OR equivalent combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform job duties.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state of Arizona driver’s license and an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to use an Aerial Work Platform (lift) and successful completion of a safety training course for such.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication and professional manners to provide exceptional customer service in any situation.
  • Knowledge of audio systems, gain structures, signal level standards and interfacing. Familiar with all standard connectors, wiring patterns and grounding practices.
  • Excellent technical experience and problem-solving skills when setting up components, systems, patching and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of audio and video signal processers and converters, their use, parameters, and calibration.
  • Knowledge and experience with live sound audio mixers to provide reinforcement for performing arts (theatre, dance, and music) events, including an understanding of acoustic principles and common mixing techniques.
  • Knowledge of types of theatrical lighting fixtures, use of DMX control signal, and operation of lighting control panels.
  • Familiar with video signal resolutions, interlaced/progressive signal formats and common framerates. Familiar with video camera and video mixer operation and configuration.
  • Familiar with common signal transport protocols such as midi, madi, Dante, AES, SDI…
  • Familiar with rf spectrum limitations for use of unlicensed wireless devices.
  • Ability to solder and perform minor cable and electronic repairs.
  • Audio and Video digital non-linear editing and production experience.
  • Advanced familiarity and use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software such as:
    • Soundcraft Si Impact digital mixer.
    • ETC Element lighting console, or the EOS family of software.
    • Roland V160-HD Streaming Video Switcher
    • Ableton Live audio multitracking and editing software.
    • Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 suite.
    • Adobe Premier Pro suite of editing software
    • Nero suite of tools.
    • Microsoft Teams Video Conferencing software and features.
    • Manage a YouTube business channel.

  • Ability to multi-task and distribute efforts appropriately among conflicting tasks, manage competing deadlines, handle frequent interruptions, and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to climb and handle ladders
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds
